Language solutions:

The challenge

Our client is a manufacturer of premium optical devices for birdwatchers and outdoor enthusiasts. Its binoculars and spotting scopes are products of choice for discerning users.

With a network of dealers and retailers across 25 markets, our client wanted to publish localized price lists for its 2024 product range. The product range for 2024 was organised over four price list templates to serve different sales channels and customer segments. Product availability for each target market also varied. Prices and currencies needed to be localized for each target market, too.

The client had a fixed pre-Christmas print deadline and a springtime target for sharing digital versions online. The work involved translating product descriptions into 14 languages, ensuring correct prices across 25 markets, and typesetting 80 price lists in total.

Our client

The solution

Our client commissioned Planet Languages to translate and typeset its price list templates. The price lists contained product descriptions as well as technical specifications. This required a blend of creativity and precision. Our experienced linguists crafted persuasive translations to appeal to premium buyers. All product names were meticulously cross-referenced against a carefully maintained glossary.

By optimising the client’s InDesign templates and creating IDML files, we were able to streamline the typesetting process. Prices were applied fastidiously for every individual price list. We drew on our close relationship with the client’s in-country representatives for the final sign-off of the PDF layouts. With our dedicated team of translators and typesetting specialists, plus first-rate project management, we delivered all 80 price lists comfortably within the client’s print deadline. We also provided seamless support for last-minute product and price changes for the digital launch in spring.

The result

Our client now has localized price lists in multiple languages to support its retailers and boost sales across all its markets. The multilingual typesetting, completed by our team of DTP experts, has resulted in price lists that are as visually appealing in the target languages as the client’s original templates.

Preparation work on the 2025 price lists is already under way. This time, we are able to offer our client an even more streamlined workflow and quicker turnaround. Many of their products will also be available for purchase next year. The translations of these product names and descriptions are already approved and stored in our translation memories.

Following positive H1 2024 sales figures, our client is branching out into three new markets in 2025: North America, Australia and New Zealand. We look forward to supporting them!
