FAQs

This depends on the number of words that we need to translate. It may be worth bearing in mind that you may not need to have your entire website translated. Give careful consideration to the areas that you feel are the most critical to be translated. You can always translate more pages if and when required.

Obtaining an accurate word count by simply providing us with a URL is particularly error-prone, as the possibility of including obsolete pages or overlooking relevant content is very high.

While there are many tools available that allow us to calculate the word count of a website, we have previously found that this results in a rather inflated word count and an inaccurate (and potentially prohibitively expensive) cost estimate.

In order to ensure that our cost estimate is as accurate as possible, please provide us with the web pages that you would like us to translate. These can be file formats such as XML, XHTML or HTML. Your webmaster should be able to provide these to you. Providing us with these files will also minimise any post-processing work for your webmaster, as we would be able to return the translation in the same file format.

When requesting a translation into Chinese, please let us know your target market. The main dialect spoken in China and Singapore is Mandarin and the written form used in China and Singapore is Simplified Chinese. The main dialect spoken in Hong Kong and Macau is Cantonese, while the written form used is Traditional Chinese. The main dialect spoken in Taiwan is Mandarin, while the written form used is Traditional Chinese. As you might expect for such a huge region, the form of Traditional Chinese in Hong Kong will be slightly different from that used in Taiwan. Please advise us of your target market and we can then ensure that we provide you with the most appropriate version.

Start with the one that corresponds with your biggest target market. Now get that version of Portuguese checked (and adapted if necessary) for the other market(s).

Yes. Please inform us of your biggest Spanish-speaking market. If that happens to be Argentina, we will probably use an Argentinean translator to create the basis of our International Spanish version, which will then be checked across the region, to ensure that any specific country terms are avoided.

We are able to receive emails with attachments of up to 7 MB. If you need to send us a file that is larger than 7 MB, please let us know and we will create a secure, personal login so that you can upload it to our FTP site. You can access our FTP site through an FTP programme or via a web browser. We can also download files sent to us via file transfer services such as WeTransfer, YouSendIt, DropBox or ShareFile.
