Yes, we only ever employ translators that translate into their mother tongue.
Planet Languages requires translators to have a degree in linguistics or language studies or an equivalent degree that includes significant translation training, from a recognised institution of higher education, as well as a minimum of 5 years of translation experience.

All our translators are native speakers of the target language and have additional subject matter qualifications, skills and experience. Before selecting a supplier, we organise sample translations that are thoroughly evaluated by senior trusted linguists.

If you have regular translation requirements, we can arrange sample translations, so that your in-country reviewers choose their preferred option for each language. Once the preferred linguists are selected, your approved teams will continue working on all similar content we receive from you to maintain the style and terminology across all work.

We have extensive experience with both Translation Memory and Machine Translation and our Project Managers will be able to advise you on which option is best suited for your content. Please rest assured that we will never use Machine Translation on your content without your explicit consent. If you do require Machine Translation, we are ISO 18587 certified and provide full post-editing services to ensure the high quality of the final output.
When determining the cost for your work we first and foremost look at the word count, as the majority of our translation work is charged based on the number of words. Other factors such as file format, text type and the use of Translation Memory can impact the total cost as well. For example, the consistent use of Translation Memory for your projects can lead to significant savings.
Minimum charges may apply to small projects (under 350 words or so). Irrespective of the size of your project, you can be assured that our Project Managers and linguists will handle your content with the same amount of care, investing valuable time and effort to ensure the translation fulfils your brief.
If your content is in a Word document, you can easily check your word count in the status bar at the bottom of the document. If your file contains text that does not require translation, you can hide the relevant paragraphs before checking the word count, in order to get an accurate result. Make sure to include or exclude text boxes and text within images depending on your requirements.

If you have multiple files or your content is stored in a format that does not have an integrated word count option, simply share your project with us and we will determine the exact word count by processing it with our professional translation tools. Don’t worry if your file contains content that is not for translation, such as codes and tags in .html or other website and app localization file formats; our software will exclude any such code or tags and only calculate the actual translatable word count in the source text.
As a rule of thumb, translators can translate around 1,500 words a day. If your project requires faster turnaround times, your dedicated Project Management will be happy to provide you with available in order to meet your specific timelines.

There are several factors that can affect the turnaround times, such as the complexity of the subject matter, the complexity of the layout, whether Translation Memory can be used, availability of your approved team and file formats involved. Having advance notice on an upcoming project is always useful, as it will help us book your preferred team and therefore ensure their availability and fastest possible turnaround times.

When requesting a translation into Chinese, please let us know your target market. The main dialect spoken in China and Singapore is Mandarin and the written form used in China and Singapore is Simplified Chinese. The main dialect spoken in Hong Kong and Macau is Cantonese, while the written form used is Traditional Chinese. The main dialect spoken in Taiwan is Mandarin, while the written form used is Traditional Chinese.

As you might expect for such a huge region, the form of Traditional Chinese in Hong Kong will be slightly different from that used in Taiwan. Please advise us of your target market and we can then ensure that we provide you with the most appropriate version.
Of course, all translations delivered to you will be in the same file format as that of your source file and maintain the exact layout of your source content. If your source file is a PDF, we can also provide you with Desktop Publishing services and deliver the translations back to you in PDF format for online publication or for printing.

We do and we generally advise our clients to evaluate at least a couple of samples before proceeding with the translation work. Everybody’s style and preference is different and you know best what the style of your content should be. It is important to us that you are entirely happy with a translation sample, especially before we organise the translation of a large volume of content.
